Brian Watkins

Eaton Seat

Brian has been in local politics, serving as a Councillor for nearly 40 years. He was raised and still lives in Eaton, so he knows the people and the area well. First elected in 1983 as a City Councillor for Town Close ward he served 12 years culminating in serving as Sheriff in 1990. He then returned in 2000 as a City Councillor for Eaton and more recently has been a County Councillor for Eaton for the last 8 years.

Brian is passionate about ensuring that local people's views are taken into account when shaping local services. He wants to see Liberal Democrat values of fairness, a caring society and a greener environment at the heart of County Council policies. Particularly dealing with the immediate threat of Climate Change, he wants to see it treated as an emergency, in the same way as the Covid Pandemic was treated as an emergency.  In the last year, Brian has been involved with the County's Infrastructure and Highways Committee, working to ensure road safety improvements in Eaton including speed reduction measures and the associated signs and infrastructure, safe pedestrian crossings, value for money maintenance of the roads and promoting sustainable transport, walking, cycling and public transport.

During Lockdown Brian has been part of the team ensuring groceries are delivered weekly to elderly residents of Daisy Hill Court from Cringleford Stores. He is also a regular volunteer with the New Routes charity which supports refugees and asylum seekers. His interests include singing in several local choirs, playing tennis, walking in the countryside, and watching Norwich City.
