North Walsham East seat
In May 2019 I was elected to North Norfolk District Council, because I care deeply about the issues affecting local residents. My District Council Ward covers the parishes of Happisburgh, Lessingham, East Ruston, Ingham, Honing and Brunstead, and I am proud to serve as the District Council’s Mental Health Champion and Cabinet Member for Organisational Resources. I am a trustee for Happisburgh Lighthouse, I sit on the Broads Internal Drainage Board, the Bacton Terminal Liaison Group, and have recently been appointed to the North Norfolk Community Transport Board. I am also a Parish Councillor for Witton and Ridlington.
As the Mental Health Champion, I work with the Mental Health Trust, Clinical Commissioning Group, Primary Care Network and service users to help improve services. During the pandemic, I have been working with the Wellbeing Service to create an anxiety education programme. I am trustee for the charity Get Me Out The Fours walls, which aims to help prevent the on-set of parental mental illnesses such as postnatal depression, and helps aid stabilisation of mental health by reducing social isolation.
This pandemic, and the lockdowns that have come with it, have had an impact on so many residents’ mental health, both locally in North Walsham and across Norfolk more widely.
I am proud to also be coordinating Healthier North Walsham with Birchwood Medical Practice: a partnership of residents, healthcare providers, charities and other groups, which aims to help local people to support their long-term health and wellbeing. Together we want to move from managing illnesses towards helping people improve their lifestyles, and preventing illnesses from developing. I sit on the North Walsham Phoenix steering group, which will look to support people with other factors to improve their wellbeing and quality of life.
I want to continue to make a difference by standing for County Council. I have always been inspired by the work Sir Norman Lamb did as an MP in promoting mental health and listening to residents, and I wish to continue this work at county hall.
On 6th May, the people of Norfolk will get to decide who represents them on the County Council and I am standing because I believe the people of North Walsham East division deserve a strong voice on the County Council.
