Suzanne Nuri-Nixon

Wymondham seat

I moved to Wymondham eight years ago from London, live with my wife Lucy, and have two grown up daughters.

Previously I worked in the family fish and chip business, then followed my ambition to work as a journalist for a community newspaper. I have since worked in Health & Safety, as a school clerk to governors, then moved to graphic design work at Town & Country News in Stalham.

I have undertaken a number of personally fulfilling voluntary roles over the years. I have been an active member of the Wymondham Town Team, was on the Vintage Day committee, designed publicity materials, as well as help put up Christmas lights in Town.

I helped fundraise for a defibrillator and am a trustee with The Lizard charity. Other past voluntary work includes work with community associations, a human rights’ lobby group and being a school governor.

One of my proudest moments was being selected as a Games Maker for the 2012 London Olympic Games.

In Wymondham, I was involved in the campaign against relocating play equipment from King’s Head Meadow. Along with others, I successfully campaigned to make Wymondham Train Station more accessible for all by lobbying for step-free access to Platform Two.

I also successfully campaigned with my colleague, Cllr Annette James, for the opening of local play parks.

In 2017 I was elected to Town Council and in 2019 was re-elected where I sit on the Planning and Lighting Committee. I also became a District Councillor for South Wymondham and currently sit on the Regulation & Planning Policy Committee.

When I first campaigned for election, I wanted to improve transparency and communication for local residents and as part of this, I write a regular monthly column for the Wymondham Online Magazine. I am active on social media, regularly updating the community on local and council news.

At County level I am very interested in how to revitalise our local market towns, create more opportunities for young people locally and create more sustainable public transport links.

Away from politics I enjoy afternoon tea, walking on beautiful beaches of Norfolk, and Eurovision. I also love watching The West Wing and all Star Trek series.

I am standing because I believe the people of Wymondham division deserve a strong voice on the County Council.
